Hailing from Melaka, Joyce advanced ahead of her cohort by skipping a grade through the Chinese independent school education system and earning a scholarship to read law at the University of Leeds.

Joyce completed her pupillage at a top-tier firm recognised by notable accolades including Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, AsiaLaw and Benchmark Litigation, which at the time had a team of around 90 lawyers. She later rose through the ranks and became a partner at another top-tier dispute resolution practice recognized by Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

Joyce has acted in a wide range of complex corporate, civil and commercial matters for listed entities, government-linked entities as well as their C-suite executives and high-net-worth-individuals (HNWI), with particular focus on corporate and contractual disputes, assets recovery, defamation, and strata management. She was also involved in a multi-million USD trial of nearly 20 days for a government-linked company.

She has experience advising and acting for prominent media organisations and notably led one of the first successful claims in Malaysia involving defamatory content published by a social media influencer. In the strata management sector, Joyce regularly acts for management bodies and has contributed to the development of novel legal issues relating to the uniformity of share units for maintenance charges across strata parcels.

She also handles complex probate litigation, representing clients in high-stakes disputes involving wills, trusts, fiduciary misconduct, and contested estates.

Outside of legal practice, Joyce represents both the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar in netball and remains an active member of the legal sporting community.
