Nicholas is an indigenous lawyer; born and raised on the island of Borneo. He is the first Malaysian to win the best oralist award for the pre-final rounds at the international Nuremberg Moot Court 2015 competition.
Prior to Varon Joyce, Nicholas was a partner at one of the Legal 500 law firms in Malaysia, acting as the counsel and/or solicitor in civil, corporate and commercial disputes. He was the legal counsel tasked to establish and supervise the legal and regulatory affairs division of a media and broadcasting company, which owns the first state-owned television channel in Malaysia.
Nicholas approaches each case with careful preparation, studying every piece of evidence, anticipating moves, and thinking several steps ahead. He skilfully navigates through arguments and questions while staying composed. He leverages on his in-house corporate experience to deliver solutions from an effective, holistic and efficient lens.

Select Experiences:
- Successfully defended a director against a claim amounting to approximately RM62 million for fraudulent trading
- Conducted a trial leading to a judgment of RM15.6 million being entered against former directors of a world-leading glove manufacturer and exporter for breach of fiduciary duties and conspiracy to injure by unlawful means
- Successfully obtained an order to freeze the assets of a defendant up to the sum of RM4.2 million on the premise that said defendant has committed misappropriation of the client’s assets
- Successfully obtained an order to discover an adjuster’s report prepared by the insurer of a potential defendant, overcoming allegation that said report is attached with litigation privilege
